Harris Tweed is protected by its own British Act of Parliament – the Harris Tweed Act 1993 – making it the only fabric in the world whose origin is secured in this way. The Harris Tweed Authority awards the official certificate of authenticity: the Orb Mark, a crowned sphere with a cross, which was registered as a trademark as early as 1910 and is sewn into every piece. Every Harris Tweed waistcoat from Wellington of Bilmore bears this seal visibly on the sleeve or in the lining. Classic designs for waistcoats include fine herringbone, Glencheck, and subtle Prince of Wales patterns in shades of grey, green, and brown. The backs of Wellington of Bilmore waistcoats are classically padded with smooth viscose lining, while genuine horn or metal buttons and piped pockets on the front provide the traditional look.

The Harris Tweed waistcoat for men fulfils two roles: as the centrepiece of the classic tweed three-piece suit consisting of jacket, waistcoat, andHarris Tweed trousersin identical design, and as a versatile layering piece in the autumn and winter wardrobe. As a single item, it is worn over an Oxford shirt and under awax jacketor a classicwool coat– an element that also remains visible when the coat is opened. Withcorduroy trousers, a shirt, and aflat cap, the classic British country look is created, as it has been worn in country houses and pubs for generations and as it is now reappearing in the "Old Money" and "Quiet Luxury" editorials of the fashion press.
